Italian mafia boss arrested in London after nearly 2 decades on the run

LONDON - An Italian mafia boss has been arrested in London after nearly two decades on the run, British police said on Thursday.

London's Metropolitan Police said Domenico Rancadore, 64, had been arrested on Wednesday on a European Arrest Warrant.

He has an outstanding prison sentence of seven years in Italy for mafia-related activities, according to the warrant.

"He was taken into police custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court today (August 8)," police said in a statement.

Rancadore's prison sentence in Italy relates to mafia activities between 1987 and 1995 in Palermo, the main city on the island of Sicily, according to the arrest warrant.
