Jail, caning for molesting two women

SINGAPORE - A construction worker who molested two women separately in the wee hours of the morning was sentenced to three years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane yesterday.

In the first incident on Aug 18, Bose Durairaj had dragged a 24-year-old woman to the back of a block in Bedok Reservoir Road near a rubbish chute collection point and pinned her down.

The 27-year-old Indian national then forcibly pulled up her T-shirt and groped her. He then tried to remove her pants, but to no avail.

As she was shouting, Durairaj covered her mouth. She resisted and kept struggling and calling for help. A resident heard the commotion and shouted at Durairaj, who fled towards an open field nearby.

Less than two months later - on Oct 4 - Durairaj was at the lift lobby of a block in the same estate when he smiled at a 19-year-old and her friend at a staircase.

When the victim moved aside to let him pass, Durairaj molested her after hugging her from behind.
