Judges, lawyers to perform in charity concert

SINGAPORE - More than 70 members of the legal fraternity, including two Supreme Court judges and the Attorney-General, will be singing, dancing or playing instruments at a concert to raise funds for former prisoners.

The money collected from ticket sales to the one-night charity concert will be donated to a bursary under the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

The bursary fund gives financial aid to needy ex-prisoners for skills training that will help them find a job.

The concert is organised by the Singapore Academy of Law as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

Among the performers are Justice Lai Siu Chiu and Justice Lee Seiu Kin.

When asked what she will sing, Justice Lai said with a smile: "I think I'll keep that a surprise."

Show director Jeremiah Choy, of events company Orangedot Productions, would only say that Justice Lai, a soprano, will sing a "classic" while Justice Lee will sing a song from a musical.

Attorney-General Steven Chong and a group of three young prosecutors will sing Stand By Me with The Revivals, a group of ex-prisoners who have gone through the prisons' music rehabilitation programme.

The concert will be held on Sept 12 at the School of The Arts Drama Theatre, from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Tickets at $160.50 and $107, are on sale at www.sal.org.sg
