Lee Kuan Yew and late wife immortalised in romantic tribute at Madame Tussauds

SINGAPORE - Many may remember Singapore's founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, as a political leader, but at the new Madame Tussaud museum in Sentosa, visitors will get to see a much softer side of him.

Together with his late wife, Madame Kwa Geok Choo, the pair were made into wax figures and are two of the famous faces not to be missed at the museum.

The wax statues were created based on a photograph that was taken by Madame Kwa's niece, Ms Kwa Kim Li, of the pair on Valentine's Day in 2008 at Sentosa.

Dressed in casual clothing, Mr Lee had a bright smile on his face as he sat arm-in-arm next to his wife.

In the mood of the romantic occasion, the couple were surrounded by brightly-coloured red and pink flowers.

The bright smiles on their faces are reminiscent of a young couple dating, and could probably make anyone blush as they walk past.

Senior Lee's son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, is also one of the many famous Singaporeans that visitors can see at the museum.

The London-based museum will open to the public on Oct 26 and Singapore is the first branch to include a boat ride.

The ride, called "Spirit of Singapore", will take visitors on a journey celebrating the iconic sights of Singapore, from Marina Bay Sands to the Singapore Flyer, Botanical Gardens and the F1 night race circuit.

Local celebrities Stefanie Sun, Jack Neo, Gurmit Singh and Zoe Tay were also immortalised with wax doubles made of them to highlight their contributions to the world of entertainment.

Ms Tay, who was the guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony today, said it was a "real honour" to be selected as one of the famous personalities to be featured. She is also confident that Singapore will love this new museum.

Madame Tussauds Singapore is located at the Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa. Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $20 for children.
