Legless body found inside blood-soaked suitcase

SINGAPORE - Two men went to his fruit shop at Syed Alwi Road at about 6pm yesterday and said they wanted to wash their hands.

Mr Lim Kok You (pictured below), who is in his 50s, noticed that their hands were bloody. Curious, he asked them what had happened.

"They told me they were helping a karung guni man carry a bag," Mr Lim said.

"It was so heavy they had difficulty carrying it. Then they noticed their hands were covered in blood."

Mr Lim spoke to the karung guni man, who appeared to be in his 70s.

Mr Lim told TNP: "I think the old man, who's familiar in the neighbourhood, found the suitcase and wanted to sell it.

"He said he opened it and saw a man's body inside. I asked a passer-by to call the police."

When police officers arrived and checked the piece of luggage, they found a body that was missing both legs.

Mr Lim added that he had not heard or seen anything out of the ordinary before the incident.

Another man, who works at a shop a few doors away, said the two men were helping the senior citizen load the bag onto a shopping trolley when they saw the blood.

MORE BLOOD

Declining to be named, he said: "They dropped the suitcase and more blood came out. The bag was about a metre long."

When TNP arrived at the scene, which is near the junction of Syed Alwi Road and King George's Avenue in the Jalan Besar area at around 7pm, the police had cordoned off an area about the size of half a football field.

A blue tent covered the body. When the tent was removed at around 8pm for investigators to check, this reporter caught a glimpse of the bloodied body.

Onlookers who had gathered around the cordon were craning their necks to try to see the corpse.

The police have classified the case as unnatural death and are investigating.
