Less than 40 police officers charged annually over 5 years

SINGAPORE - Over the last five years from 2008 to 2012, the number of regular police officers and National Service police officers charged in court each year for criminal offences averaged 17 and 23 officers respectively. 

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said in a written reply to Member of Parliament Ang Wei Neng on Monday. Mr Ang wanted to know the number of regular police officers and National Service police officers who have been accused of committing criminal offences and breaching disciplinary guidelines under various codes of conduct over the past five years. 

Mr Teo Chee Hean added: "As for those subject to disciplinary proceedings during the same period, they averaged 66 regular officers and 62 National Service officers annually."
