Little India Riot: Sun TV corrects erroneous report

SINGAPORE - India's Sun TV Network has apologised for the erroneous coverage of the Dec 8 events and has aired the correct version of the incident.

In an email reply to the Singapore Consulate-General in Chennai Mr Roy Kho, the Editor In-charge of the news network  Mr R. Umashankar apologised for what happened and said that he takes responsibility for the incorrect news.

On Dec 10, Singapore High Commissioner to the Republic of India Mr Lim Thuan Kuan sent a letter to Chennai-based Sun TV Network in response to Sun TV's erroneous coverage of the riot in Little India.

High Commissioner Lim's letter was conveyed to Mr Umashankar by Mr Kho.

On Dec 11, Mr Umashankar sent an email to Consul-General Mr Kho. The content of Mr Umashankar's email has been reproduced on the next page:

"Please excuse for the delay in responding to your mail.

"I would like to inform you that the correct version of the incident in Little India was carried in the 7 pm prime time bulletin on 10 December with the same prominence and duration of the original news that was aired on 9 December. I had earlier sent you the clipping of the news that was aired last night.

"As Editor In-charge of the News Section of Sun TV, I take up the responsibility for the incorrect news and I sincerely apologise for what has happened. And, I also assure you that this kind of error will not happen again.
