Family's ex-maid detained

A Filipino woman, believed to have worked as a maid with the family of abducted boy, Freddie Joseph, has been detained. A police source said the woman was picked up at an undisclosed location at 11am today.

"The woman is believed to have been employed with the family for about a year," said the source.

It is understood that police are also expected to swoop in on her accomplice, a male suspect, soon.

In the Friday incident, Freddie was abducted from his home by a man who had entered the family's house's compound in Bangsar.

The baby's mother, Sarah Joseph, a 39-year-old teacher, had struggled with the man, who eventually managed to bundle the baby into a white Toyota Camry parked just outside the home.

Witnesses claimed that a woman was believed to have been inside the vehicle, and handled the baby while the man drove the car.

Freddie was found yesterday, 18 hours after his abduction, in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa by passers-by, who alerted the police.

He was warded overnight at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for observation.

Police have since released a photofit of a male suspect fitting the description given by the boy's mother. -NST
