Mad rush to deposit money on auspicious Li Chun day

SINGAPORE - It was a sea of red in front of many cash deposit machines on Wednesday as people rushed to bank in money on what is supposed to be an auspicious day in the Chinese lunar calendar.

Feb 4 is known as 'Li Chun' in the Chinese calendar marking the beginning of spring.

According to The Straits Times, it has now become a superstition to bank in money while wearing a red top on this day.

A chart that was widely shared on social media also revealed that there were different "lucky hours" based on a person's zodiac sign.

For example, the best time to bank in money for people born in the year of the tiger, goat and dog was between 11am and 12.59pm whereas rabbits, horses and pigs were luckiest between 1pm and 2.59pm.

An AsiaOne reader, Ms Loh, said she saw the long queues in front of cash deposit machines at Toa Payoh Central.

"There were so many people banking in money and they were all wearing red. I did not know that today was Li Chun until a friend told me," she said.
