SINGAPORE - Dressed in a short-sleeved red top and blue bermuda shorts, an Indonesian maid was charged in court on Thursday morning with the murder of socialite artist Nancy Gan.
Dewi Sukowati, 23, appeared calm when the charges were read out to her.
She is alleged to have murdered her 69-yearold employer at the employer's Victoria Park Road bungalow, off Coronation Road, on Wednesday between 7.30am and 8.46am.
Media reports indicated that she had been working for Ms Gan for barely a week.
Dewi has been remanded at Changi Women's Prison for a psychiatric assessment and will appear in court again on April 10.
Her lawyer, Mr Mohamed Muzammil, who was appointed by the Indonesian Embassy, said that she is from Central Java.
Madam Nancy Gan, a widowed mother of two who was known for her porcelain art, was found dead in the swimming pool of her posh home in her pyjamas.
She is believed to have died from head injuries.
