Maid in elderly woman murder case heard crying for 2 hours the night before

A 24-year-old maid from Myanmar, Than Than Win, was on Wednesday afternoon charged with alleged murder of an 85-year-old woman, The Straits Times reported.

The body of the elderly woman was found motionless inside a Springdale condominium unit along Hindhede Walk on Tuesday, March 4.

According to the Shin Min Daily News on Wednesday, neighbours interviewed said Than had been crying loudly at the balcony of the 8th-floor on Monday night.

Her crying lasted for about two hours, said neighbours. Shin Min understands that Than had received news that a family member had died the day before.

A neighbour, Madam Wu, told reporters that a security guard had seen the maid holding a knife to her neck with one hand while trying to open the lift door with her other hand at about 5pm on Tuesday.

He then made a call to the police.

According to a statement from the Singapore Police Force, the police received a call on March 4 at about 5.23pm.

Upon arrival, the police found the body of the elderly woman lying motionless in the condominium unit.

She was pronounced dead by paramedics on the scene at about 6.27pm.
