Maid jailed five years for abusing disabled child

SHAH ALAM - An Indonesian maid has been jailed five years and ordered to be "blacklisted" for severely abusing a disabled child who was under her care.

Tini Martini, 50, had pleaded guilty to abusing the 10-year-old victim over a period of almost four months at the family's home in Kota Kemuning.

Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad ordered Tini to be deported after completing the sentence.

The abuse was recorded on CCTV which showed the child was repeatedly hit, kicked, stepped on and dragged about by Tini.

The mother had described Tini's shocking actions as "merciless abuse".

Defence counsel Nur Elissa Baharudin pleaded for leniency, saying that Tini had four children who had to be placed under the care of a neighbour.

Nur Elissa said her client regretted her actions and took full responsibility for them.

DPP Siti Rohaida Che Hamid pressed for a deterrent sentence, saying that Tini had abused a disabled child under her care.

"This sort of action cannot be accepted, and it is even more cruel as the child is disabled," she added.
