Mail theft: Questions from an affected resident

I live in one of the HDB blocks affected by the theft of a mail trolley ("Mail stolen after SingPost trolley left unattended"; last Wednesday).

It was shocking to learn that the stolen letters belonged to residents of six blocks - or hundreds of households - making it a rather significant incident.

Have our postmen become complacent about mail security?

Also, in a letter to residents after the theft, SingPost said it was "working with corporate senders that had mailed out letters for delivery to your block, to minimise any inconveniences".

This puzzles me as The Straits Times' article mentioned that "ordinary mail is not tracked by SingPost, so it cannot tell what items had been taken".

If this is so, how would SingPost know which corporate senders to work with?

I am also keen to find out if the regulator, the Infocomm Development Authority, is conducting its own investigations into this rather large-scale incident.
