Malaysian delegation visits welfare group Jamiyah

A Malaysian delegation visited welfare organisation Jamiyah yesterday to learn about its community service programmes and how it promotes inter-religious harmony.

About 25 people visited Jamiyah's Geylang headquarters. They are from the Department of National Unity and Integration; the Committee for Promoting Inter-religious Understanding and Harmony Among Religious Adherents; the Malaysian Islamic Development Department; and the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia.

The delegation also visited the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the Housing Board.

Datuk Nik Mustapha Nik Hassan, a spokesman for the delegation and director-general of the Institute of Islamic Understanding, said the visit to the HDB was to see how Singapore uses housing policy to foster harmony in a multi-religious and multiracial community.

He said the visit demonstrated the need to develop a culture of engagement and enhance dialogue with various groups.
