Malaysian minister visits S'pore as 47th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow

SINGAPORE - Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri is in Singapore till Dec 4 as the 47th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow (LKYEF).

LKYEF chairman Eddie Teo will host a welcome dinner for her tomorrow.

Ms Nancy, who is the Minister in charge of law in Malaysia, will also be hosted to meals by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam and Senior Minister of State for Education and Law Indranee Rajah, and meet Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong and Attorney General V K Rajah.

Ms Nancy will receive briefings by various ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Law, Ministry of Home Affairs and Land Transport Authority. She will visit places such as the Parliament, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Singapore International Mediation Centre, Pro Bono Services Office, and the State and Syariah Courts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that such exchanges reinforce the close bonds that Singapore and Malaysia enjoy.

"They promote warm ties allowing for greater collaboration and strengthening of our bilateral relationship," the Ministry said.

Established in 1991, the LKYEF programme invites outstanding individuals for high-level exchange visits to Singapore. The Fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track record or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations, as well as promote international understanding and goodwill.
