Malaysian police find student who dumped baby girl

DUNGUN - Police have identified a 19-year-old student believed to have dumped her newborn baby girl into the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) sewage treatment plant in Sura Hujung here last week.

The student, from Selangor, was identified after police, with help from UiTM staff, screened the students living in the campus dormitory block yesterday morning.

Terengganu Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner K. Manoharan said the student was sent to Dungun Hospital for treatment.

He said she would only be detained after she was discharged from hospital.

Manoharan said police found blood stains and other clues in her room.

He added that police had also identified the student's boyfriend, 20, also from Selangor, and would record his statement.

On Thursday, a worker found the newborn's body in the campus' sewage treatment plant.
