Man, 22, convicted of having sex with minor

SINGAPORE - She was 14 going on 15. He was 21.

They got to know each other through WhatsApp in April last year.

They met soon after and were in a relationship by May 2014.

And despite knowing the girl's age, Muhammad Sali Ifwat Zainodin, 22, started a sexual relationship with the girl.

Yesterday, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual penetration of a minor. Another three similar charges will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

The girl cannot be named because of a gag order protecting her identity.

Between May and July 2014, Muhammad Sali had sex with the girl at least three times, all at staircases.

In the first incident, they met at Lavender near the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore building.

They went to a nearby HDB staircase where they got intimate and had unprotected sex.

On another occasion, they did the same when they met at the Marymount estate and went to a HDB staircase.

The third time, they went to a multi-storey carpark at Sims Drive and had unprotected sex.

During these encounters, Muhammad Sali knew the girl's age and performed the acts with her consent.

The incidents came to light in May this year when the KK Women's and Children's Hospital made a police report about an underage pregnancy.

Muhammad Sali, who used to work as a Cisco officer, said he was very remorseful about what happened and asked District Judge Saifuddin Saruwan for leniency.

The judge has adjourned the case to Nov 11 for Muhammad Sali to be sentenced.
