Man arrested for armed robbery, molest

SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two cases of armed robbery.

The first case took place in Jalan Tiga on June 27 at around 4.30pm. The suspect was reported to have followed the victim into a lift. He pulled her back in when she was about to exit, and led her to a staircase where he robbed and molested her.

The police received another report of armed robbery two days later, this time in Jalan Tenaga at around 7pm. The suspect rushed into a lift just before the door closed and took out a sharp object to threaten a woman who was in it.

He fled with the victim's cash when the lift door opened.

The suspect was arrested along Guillemard Road on July 3 at around 2am.

He will be charged in court on July 4 for the offences of armed robbery and aggravated outrage of modesty. For armed robbery, he faces a jail term of up to 14 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane if convicted. He faces a jail term of between two and 10 years with caning if found guilty of aggravated outrage of modesty.
