Man arrested for loanshark harassment

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for loanshark harassment on Sunday morning.

The suspect was arrested in Jalan Bukit Merah at 5.16 am. He is believed to have locked a gate with a padlock and also splashed paint at the unit.

Loanshark-related paraphernalia such as two cans of paint, one marker and two bicycle locks were found on him.

The suspect will be charged on Monday and a court order will be sought to remand him for further investigations.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment may be jailed for up to five years, face a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, and may also be given between three to six strokes of the cane.
