Man arrested for robbery with hurt

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of robbery with hurt.

On Feb 25, at 9.10am, the man approached the victim, 28, who was walking along Geylang Bahru. According to a police statement, the woman ignored his pleas for money and continued walking.

The man followed her, pushed her to ground and snatched her necklace and pendant which were valued at around $400. After the man fled the scene, the victim made a police report.

The incident was also witnessed by two passers-by who also informed the police. They also helped to look out for the suspect.

Officers from Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre responded to the report and conducted a search of the vicinity. They spotted a man who fitted the description and detained him.

After a search, the victim's stolen jewellery were found in his possession. He was placed under arrest and the items were seized as case exhibits.

He will appear in court on Feb 26 for the offence of robbery with hurt. If convicted, he faces a jail term up to 20 years and up to 12 strokes of the cane.
