Man arrested for stealing TV sets from coffeeshops

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a man for stealing television sets from coffeeshops in the West Coast neighbourhood.

Police have arrested a 47-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for stealing television (TV) sets at coffeeshops in West Coast Housing Estate.

Between Nov 4 and 7, three coffeeshop proprietors reported to the Police that their TV sets mounted on the walls at their respective coffeeshops in West Coast Housing Estate were stolen. 

The four TV sets which were mounted outside the three coffeeshops were stolen after the proprietors had closed for the night. 

Officers from the Clementi Police Neighbourhood Police Centre immediately followed up on the cases to establish the identity of the suspect and successfully arrested him on Nov 7 at about 2am in the vicinity of Clementi West Street 2. 

Police have recovered the stolen items and also seized the tools used by the suspect.

The suspect will be charged in Court 23 on Nov 8. If convicted for the offence of Theft Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, he shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their perseverance and excellent investigative follow up which led to the arrest and advise shop proprietors to secure their valuables after they cease operations for the day and this will prevent similar crime from happening.
