Man arrested for trespassing, fraudulent possession and overstaying

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 36-year-old man who is believed to have committed the offences of house trespassing, fraudulent possession and overstaying.

Between Aug 18 and Nov 2, the police received several reports by home owners who discovered home appliances missing from their new flats that were undergoing renovation.

Most of the main gates of the new flats were found to be secured only with number locks.

On Nov 5, officers on patrol in the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 9 spotted a man who behaved suspiciously while taking the lift at one of the new blocks of flats.

They detained the man in one of the units and checked his belongings. Items such as cash and and mobiles phones were uncovered and he was unable to account for them.

The man was subsequently arrested for House Trespass, Overstaying and Fraudulent Possession of Property.

If found guilty of house trespassing, he faces an imprisonment term of up to 1 year, or a fine of up to $3,000, or both.

For overstaying, he may be jailed for up to six months, caned a maximum of 3 strokes and fined up to $6,000.

If he is found guilty of fraudulent possession, he will face a fine of up to $3,000, or a jail term of up to 1 year, or both.
