Man to be charged with murder

SINGAPORE- A 62-year-old Singaporean woman was allegedly murdered in her flat at Block 875 Yishun Street 81 on Dec 9 in an apparent robbery gone wrong.

The New Paper (TNP) understands that the woman was found in her flat and some items of women's jewellery were missing, but there were no signs of forced entry.

A police statement last night, said she was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and was pronounced dead that day at about 1.30pm.

TNP understands a 46-year-old Singaporean man, who was known to the victim, was identified through closed-circuit television cameras at the block of flats.

He had allegedly left the country and was arrested at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Tuesday while trying to return to Singapore.

TNP understands the woman had been strangled.

It is not known how much the jewellery was worth.

The man will be charged in court today with murder. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
