Man from capsized barge rescued

SINGAPORE - One of the five missing crew members of the capsized Bolivia-flagged barge Heng Hong 168 has been found alive.

He had been drifting in the sea for four days when he was spotted off Bintan yesterday. Indonesian Coast Guard found the Chinese national at around 9.20am, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore last night.

The man was taken to a hospital in Bintan.

The search for the four other missing crew members continued yesterday.

HELICOPTERS

It involved two Super Puma helicopters from the Singapore air force, three patrol vessels from the navy and three Police Coast Guard patrol craft, as well as other craft including Malaysian ones.

As many as 110 passing commercial vessels also helped in the search.

The barge capsized in Singapore waters on Thursday and the Police Coast Guard rescued six crew members on the same day.

Arrangements were being made to tow the barge to Malaysia.
