Man caught on camera smashing door

SINGAPORE - A wine shop partner who went to work on Monday morning and found his shop's glass door smashed, has posted a video on social media exposing the vandal.

Mr Ong Yixin, 34, managing partner of KOT Selections, said he was shocked and worried when he first found the door broken and shattered glass all over the floor of the Neil Road shop.

Mr Ong studied the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera and saw a man going on a two-minute rampage outside the premises.

In the footage, the man, who appears to be drunk, is seen kicking three rubbish bins outside the shop at 11.53pm on Sunday.

He is unsteady and falls several times. A woman, who is with him, tries unsuccessfully to restrain him.

After he kicks a door, the man and woman leave the place a minute later at 11.54pm.

The incident was posted on Facebook on Tuesday by KOT Selections. As of Wednesday night, it had received over 200 shares.

Mr Ong, who got to the shop at 8.40am and found the main wooden door ajar, told The New Paper that they locked the wooden door every night. Presumably, the man had kicked it open.

Nothing had been stolen, but the company had to replace the glass door.

"We lost almost a full day on Monday making the police report, clearing up, doing an unscheduled stocktaking and reviewing the CCTV footage," he said.

Mr Ong said they also found two handprints on the broken glass door, which he believes were left by the culprit.

He said that by posting the video on the company's Facebook page and his personal profile, the company wanted to help the police find the mischief-maker.

MAKE UP FOR IT

One man commented on the KOT Selections' Facebook page that he hoped the man would return to the shop, apologise and pay for the damage.

Others said that they had shared the video and hoped that the culprit would be caught.

The police confirmed that they received a report on Monday at about 8.55am.

A spokesman said: "We established that a case of mischief had occurred. Investigations are ongoing."

Restaurants and bars nearby that TNP spoke to said there were a lot of drunk patrons around the Neil Road area, though they did not usually cause trouble.
