Man caught in front of horses at Turf Club

SINGAPORE- Crouched at the starting line, the 57-year-old assistant trainer was attending to a horse on the racetrack.

But, to his horror, the race at Singapore Turf Club started before he could get out of the way.

A Stomp video of a race on Sunday shows the man, known only as Mr Sajuna, being caught in front of several horses as the gates to their stalls opened.

The Singapore Turf Club told MyPaper yesterday that Mr Sajuna "fell upon the opening of the starting-stall gates, but then picked himself up from the ground and managed to walk away unaided".

But Chinese paper Shin Min Daily News reported that, though he did not have any initial injuries, he later complained to his daughter of sharp chest and back pains.

She took him to a doctor for emergency treatment and an X-ray yesterday morning.

MyPaper understands that nothing wrong was found with him, and he returned to work.

Mr Sajuna was taking care of a horse called Sky Empathy and works for racehorse trainer Leslie Khoo, who could not be contacted yesterday.

A Turf Club race report said that Sky Empathy was "slightly inconvenienced" by the incident, and finished last in the race.

Some punters have since requested a ticket refund, according to Shin Min.

The Turf Club said it will conduct an inquiry into the circumstances which led to the incident at a later date.
