Man discovers burglary at home half the world away

An SMS alert received by a software engineer in the United States about an ATM transaction led to the discovery of a burglary at his house in Chennai, reported Tamil Nesan.

Vivek Selvaraj, who was working in New Jersey, received the alert at 5am on Friday, informing him that Rs72,000 (S$1,516) had been withdrawn from his bank account.

When he called up his father in Chennai, Vivek learnt that he was visiting his sister in Theni, almost 500km away.

Alarmed, the father then asked a relative to check on their house, which was later found to have been broken into.

It was learnt that the thieves stole Rs10,000, jewellery and Vivek's ATM card, which they used to withdraw the money.
