Man jailed for assaulting son, 10, over $50

SINGAPORE - He was jailed for 14 months on Thursday for ill-treating his son after the boy took $50 from him without his knowledge.

The 28-year-old cleaner admitted to repeatedly slapping the boy on his face, as well as punching and kicking his body and legs in April.

Both cannot be named to protect the identity of boy, who is about 10. He has been placed in a children's home.

The offence came to light after the boy told his friend's father about what happened and a police report was made.

In addition to a jail term, the cleaner had to enter into a $8,000 good behaviour bond for 24 months.
