Man jailed for attacking another outside nightclub

SINGAPORE - Unhappy that a man had bumped into him outside a club, a 23-year-old man and a few others kicked and punched the victim.

On Monday (Oct 5), Lionel Lim Shun Shun was jailed for seven months after he admitted causing grievous hurt to Mr Tan Jun Kai, 22, who suffered a fracture near his right eye.

The attack took place on the fourth level of Orchard Plaza, Orchard Road, at about 6.15am on April 20 last year.

The court heard that Mr Tan left Planet Jupiter nightclub at about 6am that day to look for his girlfriend.

As he was walking back to the club, he accidentally bumped into Lim who was walking out with his friends.

Lim was unhappy and asked Mr Tan in Hokkien what his problem was. Mr Tan apologised and headed back to the nightclub. He then saw his girlfriend walking out with her friends to the lift landing.

When Mr Tan entered the lift, Lim got in to confront him. Mr Tan was dragged out, kicked and punched by Lim and a few other men outside.

Apart from the fracture, Mr Tan had bruises and abrasions on his head and limbs.

Lim, who was not represented, said he completed his national service without any issue. He said he committed the offence because he was under the influence of alcohol.

He could have been jailed for up to 10 years, fined or caned.
