Man jailed for promise to 'dispose' of evidence

The jobless man promised to arrange for evidence against her husband, who was also his friend, to be disposed of.

James Gunaseelan, 48, was yesterday jailed four weeks and ordered to pay a $3,200 penalty - the amount he had corruptly obtained from Ms Azlina Mohamed, 36.

Her husband, Shaikh Salman Anwar Baladarem, was arrested on July 23, 2011, for cheating and his bail set at $50,000.

Ms Azlina later found out he was being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and contacted Gunaseelan.

Gunaseelan claimed to have called a Mr Amarjeet Singh, who supposedly knew a retired cop who could get a CID officer to dispose of the evidence against Shaikh Salman.

Police were unable to find any trace of this man.
