MARANG: A 32-year-old labourer slit his own throat after he stabbed his wife several times with a machete.
His wife Sofia Talaha, 26, however, survived the stabs and is now warded at the Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah in Kuala Terengganu.
The body of Mohd Dzulkifili Ismail was found face down in a pool of blood in his house in Kampung Gong Beris here at about 6am yesterday by his brother Mohd Nor Ismail, 25.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said Mohd Dzulkifili, who worked with the municipal council, was believed to have stabbed his wife after an argument broke out.
ACP Wan said a knife, believed to be the weapon used to attack the wife, was found beside Mohd Dzulkifili's body.
"We are, however, still investigating the motive for the incident. There are several other aspects too that we are looking at, including financial problems and what the argument was about," he said.
He added that the police were still waiting for the doctor's report and would soon record a statement from Sofia.
Mohd Nor said his brother and sister-in-law were a very happy couple, leaving him baffled about the incident.
"I was surprised to hear about this incident. Some villagers said my brother had run amok, holding a machete. I never heard of any sort of problems between them before this. This is indeed shocking," he said.
