Man loses work permit, lodges false report

SINGAPORE - He lost his work permit after a drinking session, then made a police report to say he was robbed at knifepoint by four men.

The 37-year-old said it happened around 8pm last Wednesday at Jalan Besar Stadium and that he also lost $300 cash to the "robbers".

Police said he made the report to cover up the loss of his work permit. Investigations against him are ongoing.

Anyone convicted of knowingly giving a public servant false information or abetting it can face up to a year in jail, a maximum fine of $5,000 or both.
