KUANTAN: A man who tried to sell firecrackers through Facebook has been detained by the police.
Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Azizan Md Isa said the police were shocked to discover that the 29-year-old suspect, who went by the name of Adam Danial on Facebook, was openly promoting his illegal wares.
"We took follow-up action after discovering his Facebook page on Tuesday. After getting his contact details, we arranged a meet-up at his place and confiscated all his firecrackers," he told reporters here yesterday.
Supt Azizan said the police seized 20 boxes of firecrackers worth about RM1,000 (S$398) from the suspect's house in Beserah during the 1.15pm Thursday raid.
He said the married man was selling firecrackers for the upcoming festive season to supplement his income as a sales assistant at a night market.
"He is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possession of explosives under suspicious circumstances," said Supt Azizan, adding that the suspect had been released on police bail.
On an unrelated matter, Supt Azizan urged the public to be careful when making online purchases because there were plenty of cyber criminals.
"These criminals will ask for a deposit or payment from their targets, but they will not deliver the products afterwards," he said.
