SIBU - A man wanted for allegedly raping his former girlfriend's 10-year old daughter has been nabbed.

The 39-year-old has been in hiding for two years. He has been moving from one place to another to evade arrest.

Police nabbed him in Kampung Stenggang, Bau-Lundu, which is about six hours' drive from here on Wednesday.

Following a tip-off, a team from the Sibu Criminal Investigation Department picked up the suspect at a house there at 7pm.

With his arrest, the police are expecting to investigate further the findings made by a doctor that the girl had a tear in her hymen.

Police believe the rape could have occurred between Oct 31 and Nov 4, 2013, when the suspect took the girl on a three-night stay at a village in Bau before the mother, a divorcee, fetched her back to Sibu.

The rape came to light in June this year after the suspect broke off his relationship with the girl's mother.

Knowing this, the girl picked up the courage to ask her mother if it was all right for the man to have slept with her.

The mother then took her for a medical check-up where doctors found the tear in her hymen. A police report was lodged on June 29.
