Man under investigation for making false police report

SINGAPORE - A 26-year-old man is under police investigation for making a false police report on Dec 16.

A police statement on Tuesday said that the man had lodged a police report of two men brandishing a knife at him and demanding cash from him at Toh Guan Road East. He also claimed that they took his personal documents.

Police officers from the Clementi Police Division conducted investigations upon receiving the report, and established that the suspect had made a false report on an alleged robbery. He had fabricated the story in a bid to get back personal documents he had handed over to a man.

Investigations are on-going. Anyone who knowingly contributes false information to a public servant will be liable to a jail term of up to one year, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both, if found guilty.
