Man used others' details for SIM cards?

A 42-year-old man is expected to appear in court this afternoon for allegedly using the personal data of other people, without their knowledge, to register for pre-paid SIM cards from 2010 to 2012.
He is expected to face 660 counts of unauthorised modification of computer material, the police said in a statement yesterday.
It said the affected pre-paid SIM cards belonged to three local telecommunications companies. The Commercial Affairs Department has investigated the man.
If convicted under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, he faces a fine of up to $10,000 or up to three years' jail, or both, for each count of the offence.
"The police will not hesitate to take action against persons involved in such illegal acts, and will ensure that they face the full brunt of the law," the statement said.
