A 51-year-old father was caught stealing 12 packets of instant coffee worth RM281 with his five-year-old son at a hypermarket in Kajang.

Guang Ming Daily reported that a security guard saw the man loading his son's backpack with the powder beverage on Monday morning.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Anak Richard said the security guard tailed the man and saw that he did not pay for the items at the counter upon checking out.

"The security guard immediately stopped the father and son, and later found 10 packets of the powder beverage hidden in the boy's backpack and another two packets in the father's bag.

"We have remanded the father and the boy has been sent back to the mother," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
