Meeting with geomancer main dispute in school investment suit

After consulting a geomancer, a housewife signed a business deal to invest $1.5 million.

But at what point after meeting the geomancer?

The day after, said the housewife, Ms Xia Zhengyan, in a civil suit filed against Apple Plus School chain founder Geng Changqing.

According to court documents, Ms Geng allegedly took Ms Xia to the geomancer in January last year and he told her that she was suited to invest in education-related businesses.

A day later, Ms Xia signed an agreement to invest the money in the Apple Plus School chain, the documents said. Not so, said Ms Geng in documents filed in her defence.

She claimed the parties consulted the geomancer well before Miss Xia entered into the investment agreement.

Ms Geng is claiming the dispute is over an allegation of the non-transfer of certain shares to Ms Xia. In court documents, she claimed that all obligations had in fact been duly satisfied.

Ms Geng had founded Apple Plus School International in 2009, operating franchises of education centres for children under the name of Apple Plus School. The chain's website lists 18 branches in Singapore and two in Malaysia.

The case is scheduled to be heard in the High Court on Nov 19.
