Minister K. Shanmugam visits Indonesia

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, K Shanmugam, who is on a visit to Indonesia, met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in Bandung on Tuesday.

Both ministers discussed bilateral, as well as ASEAN and regional issues.

They reaffirmed the excellent ties and good cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia. They reiterated their commitment to further strengthen Singapore-Indonesia ties.

They also discussed the preparations and follow-ups necessary for the next annual Singapore-Indonesia Leaders' Retreat.

Minister Shanmugam also met with the Mayor of Bandung Ridwan Kamil and discussed the Mayor's plans to develop Bandung. They exchanged ideas to strengthen people-to-people ties between Singapore and Bandung.

Minister Shanmugam suggested that the Mayor lead a team of officials to Singapore to get a better understanding of Singapore's experience in urban development. He said that this could be done through the Singapore Cooperation Programme. The Mayor expressed his appreciation for the offer and said that he would follow up.

Minister Shanmugam will be in Jakarta on Feb 5, 2014 where he will meet with various Indonesian officials and personalities.
