The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said yesterday that in-house weather models have predicted that total rainfall this coming December and January could be 10 per cent to 20 per cent above average.

Inter-monsoon conditions are expected to prevail over the region from second half of October 2013.

The Inter-Monsoon, which is the second Inter-Monsoon for the year, typically last from October to November. In terms of rainfall over Singapore, based on long term climate statistics, November is the second wettest month of the year after December.

For (this) fortnight, Inter-Monsoon conditions are expected to prevail over the region. The weather during the Inter-Monsoon is characterised by light and variable winds and thundery showers that are at times heavy.

During this period, Singapore can expect short-duration thundery showers, mainly in the afternoon and early evening on 4 to 6 days. In addition, widespread showers with gusty winds are likely in the pre-dawn hours and morning on 1 to 2 days.

Rainfall for October 2013 is likely to be above average.
