More bush fires but some rain at last

There were more bush fires on Monday but also, finally, some rain.

One of the fires broke out at Lower Seletar Close Monday afternoon.

It spread to an area of 2,500 sq m and could be seen by MRT passengers on the North-South line between Yio Chu Kang and Khatib stations.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at 4.16pm and sent three fire engines, two fire bikes and a Red Rhino to the scene. Almost five hours later, at 9.10pm, an SCDF spokesman said the fire had not been put out yet but was under control.

Earlier on Monday at around 1.30pm, another bush fire broke out in a forested area near Bukit Batok Street 23 and spread over some 600sq m.

No one was injured in either blaze. There was some respite from the long dry spell for the western part of Singapore, which got some rain on Monday afternoon.

The Land Transport Authority sent out a Twitter alert that there was a flash flood on the Pan-Island Expressway towards Tuas.
