My point: Allow well-off pioneers to forgo benefits

I commend the Government for setting aside $8 billion for the Pioneer Generation Package ("$8b fund to pay tribute to pioneers"; last Saturday). It is a strong commitment to look after those aged 65 and above this year and who became citizens before 1987.

But do those who are well-off really need the benefits? I hope there is an option for them to forgo their entitlements, so the money can be used to help needy pioneers.
