My point: Giant step in nuclear energy push here

Yesterday's report ("$63m programme to boost Singapore's nuclear expertise") brings most welcome news to Singaporeans.

The research and education programme is just a baby step when viewed in the context of nuclear power use in the world, but it is a huge leap forward for Singapore.

The Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear disasters have sent shivers down the spines of most of us, but we would be short-sighted to shut the door to this cleaner energy source, given the depleting supply of fossil fuels.

I hope the team of experts we are developing will one day enable Singapore to bravely take another step forward.
