My point: Other clearing methods needed

I welcome the proposed Transboundary Haze Pollution Bill, which we can enforce on companies operating overseas, including in Indonesia and Malaysia ("Govt seeks feedback on law on haze"; last Thursday).

However, the bigger issue is to ensure that every company does not clear land by illegal burning just because it is the cheapest way.

We should brainstorm alternative methods of clearing land, even though they may be costlier, because it is the right thing to do. They will definitely benefit all affected countries, not only Singapore. The haze causes so many health problems and frightens tourists away.
