My point: Set aside funds for non-health purposes

I belong to the pioneer generation, and I thank the Government for paying tribute to us through the generous Pioneer Generation Package ("$8b fund to pay tribute to pioneers"; last Saturday).

But the package should benefit pioneers not only when they fall sick.

At least part of the $8 billion fund should be diverted to purposes not related to health care, for instance, increasing public transport subsidies and topping up Central Provident Fund Retirement Accounts (rather than just Medisave).

This way, pioneers will not be made to feel as if they would receive the benefits only when they suffer the misfortune of falling sick.
