Over the past few weeks, I made three trips to the Pasir Ris neighbourhood police centre to change the address on my identity card.
On the first two trips, on weekend evenings, I saw long queues of people waiting to be served and only one police officer manning the counter, so I decided not to wait.
On my third trip, on a weekday night, I saw the same thing - only one officer at the counter.
When it was finally my turn, the officer attending to me was constantly interrupted by phone calls.
Is it the norm to have only one officer on duty on weekend and weekday nights? One would think there is a higher probability of crimes occurring at night.
The shortage of police officers and the slow response time do not inspire confidence.
