National Day 2013 song receives online brickbats, some bouquets

SINGAPORE - Judging by what's been said online, you'd think it's a national disaster.

This year's National Day Parade (NDP) theme song, 'One Singapore,' will only be officially released on Thursday evening, but already it's triggered online vitriol.

The mid-tempo song was sung by Sing A Nation, a choir comprising 68 Singaporeans from all walks of life. The melody was composed by music director Elaine Chan, and the lyrics by theatre doyenne Selena Tan.

Some netizens lambasted it for being "worse than last year's Fun Pack Song" while others said it sounded like "your auntie and uncle trying to be 'hip' and 'cool'." Likewise, folks on the ST Communities page have given it a thumbs down.
