No more Visa card payment for ComfortDelGro cab rides

SINGAPORE - Starting Monday, ComfortDel-Gro's taxi passengers can no longer use their Visa cards to pay for rides.

Passengers who used their cards to pay for taxi fares had to fork out an extra 10 per cent on the fare, excluding goods and services tax.

In an e-mail to its taxi drivers, ComfortDelGro said it was informed by Visa that it can no longer charge the administrative fee because it is a breach of its contract terms, reported Channel NewsAsia.

The taxi operator had justified the fee saying that it was necessary to invest in and maintain the payment terminals and systems, as well as to pay bank fees and telecommunication charges.
