SINGAPORE - More than 40 Residents Committee (RC) Centres in the North East district are now equipped with a Community Resource Corner, where residents may borrow tools and utility items for free.
The Community Resource Corner @ North East programme, an initiative by the North East Community Development Council (CDC), was piloted in July 2013 at Punggol Central, and has since been rolled out to various RCs in the Aljunied, Tampines and Pasir Ris-Punggol areas.
RCs that are on this programme are provided with a list of suggested items, with the most basic being a standard-stocked tool box. Those with a bigger storage area will carry additional items, such as ladders, trolleys, and plastic tables and chairs.
Residents welcome this extra service they can get at the RCs. Mr Mohd Shabrin Bin Shamsudin, who has made use of the Community Resource Corner at the Compassvale Beacon RC near his block several times, said: "My family has borrowed plastic tables and stools from the RC for family gatherings and functions. It is very convenient and really an added service to benefit the residents."
Another resident, Mr Ng Kim Yong shared: "I do not have an electrical drill at home, so whenever I buy any furniture that I need to assemble on my own, I will go down to the RC and borrow the tool. It saves me a lot of time from trying to fit the furniture manually. I really appreciate that we have such a Community Resource Corner in our estate."
Mr Teo Ser Luck, Mayor of North East District, said: "The various initiatives that North East CDC has implemented in partnership with our grassroots organisations aim to provide additional touch points for RCs to better serve residents. The Community Resource Corner is one such platform where RCs may deepen their engagement with residents."
