A 20-year-old student from the National University of Singapore (NUS) was hit by a public bus on campus and may lose three of her toes.
Miss Zheng Wen Qian was at a bus stop in front of the Computer Centre at the NUS Kent Ridge campus last Tuesday at about 2pm when the accident happened.
The police said they received a call around that time asking for assistance.
An ambulance was also deployed to the scene and Miss Zheng was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) with "a serious injury", said a Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman.
In a statement to The Straits Times, an NUS spokesman said that an SBS Service 95 vehicle was involved, and the student "is now in stable condition".
The Straits Times understands that Miss Zheng may need to have up to three toes on her left foot amputated.
When The Straits Times visited her at NUH on Sunday, the student had her left foot in a thick cast and her right in a brace. By her bedside was her mother who said she was worried about her daughter's condition.
Miss Zheng said that she has had one surgical operation so far and was being prepared for another, but would not comment on the incident.
SBS Transit spokesman Tammy Tan said representatives from the company have been to visit Miss Zheng and will continue to check on her recovery.
The company is assisting the police in their investigations, she added.
NUS said it is providing support and assistance to the student and her family.
